Since 2008
Born out of a doctorate research
…from a Canadian university, the product went through many iterations before being finalized as the ‘Fish’.
Incorporated in 2012, the company first started to sell its product in 2015 and currently distributes the Fish to more than 60 countries worldwide. Scientific work on the Fish has been published to demonstrate its safety and impact.
Why a fish?
Because our journey began in Cambodia, where the symbol of ‘fish’ is considered lucky. After testing many different shapes of iron ingots, the fish shape was what was the most well received by the communities.
Thus, the Lucky Iron Fish was born.
As we began to expand our work, we identified the need for a second shape – a leaf. Designed for our work in India, we created the Lucky Iron Leaf. The Lucky Iron Leaf functions identical to the fish, but is shaped like a tulsi leaf.

Use and Care
Overview
The Lucky Iron Fish is a simple home cooking tool that is safe, effective, and lasts up to 5 years. The Fish is clinically proven to increase iron levels and reduce iron deficiency, and is safe for the entire family.*
*Evidence demonstrates the Fish is effective in infants 12 months of age and older.
How to use
Simply boil the Fish in 1L (4 cups) of any liquid-based food (soup, water, rice, curry, etc.) for 10 minutes, with 3 drops of citrus/acid (lemon, lime, tomato, tamarind, etc.). With each use, the Fish releases 6-8mg of bioavailable iron.
Two shapes
The Lucky Iron Fish was designed for our work in Cambodia, and as we began to expand our work, we identified the need for a second shape – a leaf. Designed for our work in India, we created the Lucky Iron Leaf. See all our products.
Cooking at volume
The Fish can be used for larger food fortification. The amount of Fish, time boiled, and acidity of the liquid all affect the release of iron. Connect with us directly to develop a program tailored to your needs
Preventing rust
Since the Lucky Iron Fish is made with natural iron, some rusting may occur if moisture is left behind. To prevent rust, ensure the Fish is properly washed and dried after each use. Should rust occur, it can be removed with soap, water, and a sponge, or with lemon juice and a sponge.
Safety
The Fish is made from food grade electrolytic iron powder that meets the Food Chemical Codex (FCC) standards. This type of iron is:
- Approved for use in food supplements worldwide
- Bioavailable
- Comes in a very pure form
The Fish is rigorously tested for quality, the consistency of iron release, and that no other impurities are released at the same time. The production facility in India is ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 22000 (HACCP), and OHSAS 18001 certified, and its products are also certified Kosher and Halal.
